I suggest you ...

create a visual-analog scale question type

More granular and precise than a Likert Scale. This would probably be a simple slider from one extreme to another, and would report out a value that reflects the slider's ending position on a 1-100 range.

This could probably be added by a third party as javascript in the marketplace. I'd do it if I had the time.

Do you have a time estimate on this feature? It's quite a deal breaker -- potentially deciding whether the survey tool is at all useful for certain types of research.

I believe Lime Survey (http://www.limesurvey.org) already has this.
I would like to see the option of having the slider at a default value, or to not have it at any value and let it appear when the user clicks on the line.
Also, I'd like to see the marker be customizable (perhaps choosing between options) of a slider, X, O, or maybe a small uploaded graphic.

This would be INCREDIBLY useful for doing research studies for my thesis!!

This is a feature I would really love to have. From an academic research perspective, you can obtain very different results using a Likert Scale vs. A Sliding Bar Scale. Sometimes one question type can be more beneficial than the other, and the Sliding Bar Scale can often reveal more information as you can compare a subject's responses in relation to one another in more detail than a Likert Scale.

it would also be helpful to be able to assign the starting and ending values of this scale
